BARCELONA (Sporting Alert) — LeBron James, Kevin Durant and Team USA are set for a very strong test ahead of the Olympic Games when they face fellow gold medal vying opponents Spain in a warm up match.
USA have been in good winning form leading up to the Games and the team will be hoping to concentrate on going into the big stage full of confidence.
Tonight’s exhibition game will see several matchups from the NBA coming together, with LA Lakers teammates Pau Gasol and Kobe Bryant playing on the opposite side this time.
For the most part, this is certainly a game Team USA, which knocked off Argentina Sunday night, is looking forward to playing – and the friendly clash will be the first matchup between No. 1 and No. 2 ranked powerhouses since 2010.
“We’re obviously excited about the game,” USA head coach Mike Krzyzewski said. “Playing against Spain, a championship-level team, World champs in 2006, silver medalist in Beijing.
“They’re just one of the top teams. It gives us the opportunity before the Olympics to play the toughest game that we could play which should help us in our preparation.”
It is now left to be seen as the who will be in the starting team of the United States, as coach Krzyzewski – knowing this is the last game before the Games officially begins – will want to start the team he will consider in London.
