NEWARK, N.J. (Sporting Alert) — New Jersey Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov has announced that the team is no longer interested in pursuing a deal for Denver star Carmelo Anthony.

Recent news have been linking the Nuggets forward to the Nets – which would have seen a three team trade taken place.

But New Jersey owner Prokhorov instructed his team officials to forget trade talks with the Nuggets on Wednesday, admitting that things were suddenly taking a turn in a opposite direction he would have hoped.

Prokhorov also declared himself unhappy with how the trade talks have been put to the public, saying that things were taking too long, and becoming very expensive.

“There comes a time when the price is simply too expensive,” Prokhorov said in a news conference ahead of Wednesday night’s game against Utah.

“I have instructed our team to walk away from the deal.”

The Russian billionaire added: “Really I am not happy with the way this deal has gone until now.

“It has taken too long … and I believe it has cost us several games.”

Initially the Nets had offered six players and at least two first-round draft picks to the Nuggets in a deal that would have sent Anthony and former Detroit Pistons teammates Chauncey Billups and Richard Hamilton to the Nets.

Billups now plays with Anthony in Denver.
