Manchester, England (Sporting Alert) — Wayne Rooney scored twice to guide Manchester United to a 3-1 win over Aston villa and extend their lead at the top of the Barclay’s Premier League table.
There were also victories for Arsenal and Chelsea, while West Bromwich and Wigan played to a draw on Tuesday.
At Old Trafford, Rooney gave United the lead in the first minute of play with a brilliant finish, following a deep 60-yard pass from Edwin van der Sar.
And it was Rooney, who has been struggling to find the net this season, that made it 2-0 just before the end of the first half when he fired home a Nani cross from the right hand side to beat Brad Friedel.
Big money transfer Darren Bent pulled a goal back for Villa to make the score 2-1 in the 59th minute after being found by Stewart Downing.
However, captain Nemanja Vidic rifled home a right footer that any striker would have been proud off four minutes after Bent’s goal for Sir Alex Ferguson’s men to seal the win and remain undefeated this season.
Elsewhere, defending champions Chelsea recovered from a goal down to beat Sunderland 4-2 at the Stadium of Light, Arsenal came from a goal down to beat Everton 2-1 in a heated contest, while West Bromwich and Wigan finished 2-2.
