(Sporting Alert) — Francis Obikwelu has beaten Dwain Chambers to win the Euro Indoor Championships 60 metres dash in Paris on Sunday.
Obikwelu clocked a Portugal national record and European leading 6.53 seconds to edged Great Britain’s Chambers, who finished at 6.54secs, a seasonal best for him.
French star sprinter Christophe Lemaitre was third with a time of 6.58secs
Ukraine sprinters Olesya Povh and Mariya Ryemyen finished 1-2 in the women’s race.
Povh posted a Euro-leading 7.13 to take the gold medal ahead of her teammate Ryemyen, who ran a personal best of 7.15 for silver.
The bronze went to Ezinne Okparaebo of Norway in 7.20, just ahead of Great Britain’s Jodie Williams (7.21).
Meanwhile, in action in Jamaica, young sprint sensation Yohan Blake clocked a world leading 20.37 seconds to win the men’s open 200m at a local meeting on the Usain Bolt track Saturday evening.
Blake is a training partner of double sprint world record holder and Olympic champion Bolt.
