NEW JERSEY (Sporting Alert) — Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez scored a 66th minute winner as defending champions Mexico came from a goal down to beat Guatemala 2-1 in their CONCACAF Gold Cup quarter-finals clash at the New Meadowlands Stadium in New Jersey on Saturday night.
Carlos Ruiz had given the Guatemalans the lead in the fifth minute, which they managed to keep until the half-time break.
Second-half substitute Aldo De Nigris netted the equaliser in the 49th minute before Hernandez scored the winner.
The Manchester United forward break from his marker to cleverly knock one past the goalkeeper following a cross from the right side of the field.
The goal was Hernandez’s sixth of the tournament, which also included a hat-trick.
Meanwhile, Costa Rica were sent packing also after losing to Honduras on penalty kick.
Both teams had played to a 1-1 draw in regular and extra time action.
