PASADENA, California (Sporting Alert) — Mexico scored four unanswered goals – two in the first half and the others in the second – and come from behind to beat hosts USA 4-2 in the CONCACAF Gold Cup Final on Saturday.

The Amereicans took control of the game when Michael Bradley and Landon Donovan put them two goals with less then 25 minutes gone on the clock.

However, the defending champions took over thereafter and Pablo Barrera’s brace did the trick, even when the tournament’s leading goalscorer Javier Hernandez didn’t score.

Andres Guardado, who levelled before the break in between Barrera’s goals and Giovani Dos Santos, who scored a delightful chipped goal past Tim Howard, clinched victory.

“There’s no better moment than victory,” Mexico coach Jose Manuel de la Torre said. “Everything else is in the past now.

“You’re worried and you don’t want to become disorganized. The United States was playing well.

“They surprised us with the first goal. We pushed too far up in the second goal. Fortunately, we were able to maintain our calm.”

Mexico had beaten USA to lift the last tournament’s trophy.

The result earned the Mexicans a place in the 2013 Confederations Cup.

Meanwhile, Howard defended coach Bob Bradley after he came under fire from the public for poor tactics.

“A game like today has nothing to do with Bob,” Howard said. “It is about us. We stepped over the line. The game plan was right and we didn’t get it done.”
