The university made the announcement that both coach Kurt Budke and his assistant coach Miranda Serna, were killed along with two other passengers on Thursday night in a plane crash occurred in Perry County, Arkansas.
According to Perry County Sheriff’s Department, the crash of the single-engine plane, occurred just before 7 p.m.
This was the second time in ten years that OSU had been hit with such tragedy, following the 10 men associated with the men’s basketball team that died in a plane crash in Colorado, in 2001.
Taking the news with stunning emotions, OSU President Burns Hargis addressed the media in the video above.
Hargis send out praises to Budke, who developed a nationally recognised a program, which recovered from a poor 2005-06 campaign, where they failed to win a conference – into a NCAA Sweet 16 participant, two years later.
Budke was in his seventh season as Cowgirl head coach, while Serna, who previously worked with Budke at Louisiana Tech, was in her seventh season as an assistant coach with OSU.
