This match will see the undefeated and top ranked LSU, with the BCS national title game within sight taking on the No. 12 Georgia Bulldogs.
LSU (12-0, 8-0) in it last out easily took care of then-No. 3 ranked Arkansas 41-17 last Friday to improved its season record to 12-0, doing so for the first time in school history.
Some believes that LSU could start nervous against a Georgia (10-2, 7-1) side which enters the game on a 10-game winning streak.
However, the LSU Tigers head coach Les Miles, who had to watch his team recovered from a 14-0 deficit against Arkansas last week, says his team lives for these games.
“To me, we’re used to playing in that environment, used to being on the big stages,” he said.
“We are so looking forward to playing Georgia. This is what a team sets its sights for at the beginning of the year.
“The opportunity that this season gave us, we’ve taken advantage of to this point.
“Now it is one to a championship. It is the very next one.”
Miles also added that his LSU team was not thinking too far ahead – in terms of the championships game – but rather is focused on winning the conference title.
“There is no view of another game in my mind’s eye and I’m looking to play for victory in this one,” Miles said.
“Again, year in and year out you play in this league, the opportunity for you is to win your division, certainly win the (SEC) West, and then you can get to the championship game.
“The opportunity to be an SEC Championship team is what we’re after. I promise you that I have no view of what’s coming after that. What’s coming after that will certainly take care of itself if we play well.”
Meanwhile, also on the calender is the state rivalry clash between No. 3 Oklahoma State (10-1) who will host No. 13 Oklahoma (9-2).
Oklahoma started the season as the top ranked side but is now out of the national championship race.
However, neighbors Oklahoma State still hopes to play in title game and could stay in contention if break a nine year jinx and beat the Sooners. The will also know that a victory will seal the Big 12 title.
“For us right now, we need to prepare to win this game,” OSU coach Mike Gundy said.
“If we win this game and we play well and somebody thinks that it’s enough to put us in position to play for that, nobody will be more fired up than I will about it and excited for our players.”
Also on Saturday, No. 7 Houston (12-0) who is also undefeated this season – plays against N0. 24 Southern Mississippi (10-2) and seeks its fourth straight home win over the Golden Eagles in the Conference USA championship game.
Completing the games will be Iowa State taking on No. 16 Kansas State, UNLV at No. 18 TCU, Texas play against 19 Baylor, New Mexico has a tough assignment against the No. 9 Boise State, while No. 5 Virginia Tech plays No. 21 Clemson in the ACC championships game and No. 15 Wisconsin matching with No. 11 Michigan State in the inaugural Big Ten championship game.
