Pierce out of Miami Heat clash, won’t play against Hornets either

MIAMI (Sporting Alert) — Boston Celtics coach Doc Rivers said captain Paul Pierce will not play against the Miami Heat on Tuesday night.

Rivers also confirmed that the All-Star forward will also miss Wednesday’s trip to the New Orleans Hornets because of a troublesome bruised right heel.

Pierce participated in shootaround Tuesday morning at the American Airlines Arena and there was some hope that he would suit up for the encounter.

However, Rivers still believes the experienced player isn’t quite as ready to play just yet.

Boston will be hoping to have Pierce back for Friday’s game against Detroit.

“He worked out [Monday], did some shooting [Tuesday] — he’s feeling better, there’s no doubt about that,” said Rivers confirmed.

“He won’t play tomorrow, either — it’s probably safe to say that. Then we’ll wait and see, maybe the home-opener [on Friday against Detroit].”

Paul Pierce position will be taken by Sasha Pavlovic.
