Rose hits late jumper for Chicago to beat Lakers at Staples

LOS ANGELES (Sporting Alert) — Reigning MVP Derrick Rose scored one of his trade mark shots with 4.8 seconds remaining and Luol Deng blocked Kobe Bryant’s last seconds shot and the Chicago Bulls beat the LA Lakers 88-87 at Staples Center Sunday.

Rose scored 22 points, including the close go-ahead jumper and the Bulls rallied from an 11-point deficit in the final four minutes to stun Bryant and the hosting team.

Deng supported his point guard well by scoring 21 points, seven rebounds and four steals in the thrilling Christmas Day encounter.

Chicago also got 15 points and six boards from Carlos Boozer – as the Bulls used the final 3:36 to outscore Los Angeles 17-5. Richard Hamilton scored just six points in his first game for the Bulls and was forced to sit on the bench early because of foul trouble.

Bryant, who played with an injured wrist finished with 28 points, seven rebounds and six assists for the Lakers, but he was also guilty of committing eight of his team’s 17 turnovers.

Pau Gasol had 14 points and eight boards and Steve Blake finished with 12 points in the heartbreaking defeat in front of 18997 supporting fans.
