LOS ANGELES (Sporting Alert) — Los Angeles Lakers vs Los Angeles Clippers. Everyone has been waiting for it since the lockout ended and now it’s finally here.
On Saturday night the two teams will meet in each other at STAPLES Center and an exciting contest is expected.
With the addition of Chris Paul, Chauncey Billups and Caron Butler has brought some life to the LA Clippers new-looked camp and the expectations are now higher than normal.
The Clippers (5-3) came out on top over the Lakers (9-4) when these two sides met in preseason, but the latter has improved significantly, and Kobe Bryant, who has scored 40 or more points in his last three games is looking forward to Saturday night’s contest.
“It’s a good test. I’m looking forward to it,” Bryant said. “It’s going to be a good challenge.
“We’re going to be pumped up and excited. There’s going to be a lot of energy.”
Bryant, who is averaging 31.2 points per game and lead the league this season – has an average of 39.0 points in the Lakers’ current five-game winning streak.
He is still being bothered by a right wrist injury, but he says it’s not going to be a problem.
“The wrist is feeling stronger, feeling more comfortable,” he said. “It’s just motivation.
“Nobody wants to hear about a bad wrist as being the reason why I had a bad game. Nobody wants to hear excuses.”
The Clippers, in the meantime, have won four of its last five games, including a 97-92 victory over the Miami Heat – with Blake Griffin leading the team in scoring at 23.3 points per game.
Griffin is expected to be in a tough battle with Pau Gasol, who is averaging 16.6 points and 9.7 rebounds per game, while Andrew Bynum 16.9 PPG and 13.6 rebounds – should have a good matchup with Deandre Jordan, who is averaging 7.3 boards per game.
