Video Highlight of Pepe stamping on Lionel Messi’s hand
Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho has promised to punish defender Pepe if he’s found guilty of stamping on Barcelona star Lionel Messi on Wednesday.
Pepe was caught clearly stamping on the left hand of Messi while he was on the ground, following a hard tackle – an incident in which the referee failed to see.
However, Mourinho has warned that the Portugal defender, who played in midfield on Wednesday can expect punishment if he’s found guilty after watching the tape.
“I have not seen what Pepe did,” he claimed. “I have to watch it. Pepe did a great job for the team but if something happened, I didn’t see it.
“However, if it was intended, obviously, it is punishable.”
Barcelona came from 1-0 down in the first half to beat Real Madrid 2-1 in the Copa del Rey at the Santiago Bernabeu and Mourinho took the blame for his team’s defeat.
“The responsibility is mine, especially when my team loses,” the veteran coach said. “Victory has many fathers; defeat only one. I’ve been in football a long time and I understand this.
“The cup final victory we all celebrated, but in defeat I am the only parent.”
