Drogba currently plays in the Barclays Premier League with the Blues, but his contract runs out at the end of the season.
After rejecting the last contract offer, the signs are now clear that the 33-year-old frontman could be plotting an exit from Stamford Bridge and Klopas is interested in bringing him to the American pro league.
“If there’s a DP [designated player] that’s out there that can fit in with our team, we’re always open to it,” Klopas was quoted as telling Goal.com.
“Drogba? Of course, yes, [the Fire would be interested],” he added. “There’s talks but would he really come and what would it take?”
Drogba is reportedly still wanted by Chinese Super League big spenders Shanghai Shenhua, who are looking to reunite him with his former Chelsea teammate Nicolas Anelka, who is also at the club.
The Ivory Coast striker reportedly turned down a £200,000 a week offer from Shanghai, this last transfer window, but it is believed that they will re-open talks once he’s free to sign for any club in the summer.
But the Chicago Fire are holding hopes that they can join the likes of Los Angeles Galaxy, which has David Beckham and the New York Red Bulls, who have Thierry Henry – in signing their own marquee player.
