ORLANDO (Sporting Alert) — Kyrie Irving knocked down eight for eight from three-point range in a very free scoring BBVA Rising Stars Challenge game which kick-started the NBA All-Star weekend on Friday night.
NBA BBVA Rising Stars Challenge Highlights
The former Duke player Irving, who is a rookie with the Cleveland Cavaliers, scored 34 points in helping Team Chuck to beat Team Shaq 146-133. Paul George of the Indiana Pacers added 23 points.
The point guard Irving also too home the MVP award and admitted that he couldn’t remember another time in which he was so hot from the floor.
“No, it’s never occurred in my career,” he said. “You know, it’s kind of unfortunate that it comes in the All-Star game.
“These stats don’t carry over into the season. But at the end of the day, it was still fun to get out there with those talented guys.
“So it was a great experience.”
Another Cleveland rookie Tristan Thompson, scored 20 points to lead Team Shaq, while several others, including New York Knicks’ Landry Fields had lots of fun playing.
“It was fun to be out there with all these guys, and this guy right here (pointing to “Linsanity” Time magazine) did his thing,” Fields said.
“Short minutes, but he still did his thing.”
A funny moment in the game game when Greg Monroe stole the ball from John Wall in the middle of him setting up for a dunk.
