Philadelphia, PA (Sporting Alert) — The Philadelphia 76ers beat the Los Angeles Lakers 95-90 at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia on Monday night.

Lou WilliamsLou Williams shot 7 of 12 from the field, including 3 of 6 from three-point in his 24 points performance to lead the 76ers to its 6th victory in the last seven games and two wins.

Williams was crucial down the stretch, including nine straight points in the telling moments for Philadelphia (18-7, 13-3 home), which had to fended off the challenge of Kobe Bryant and the Lakers (14-11, 3-9 away).

“I’m ecstatic,” said Jrue Holiday, who scored 13 points and six assists for Philadelphia. “Lou Williams was untouchable down the stretch.”

He added: “This team has a heart and when it comes down to it we are going to fight.”

Sixers coach Doug Collins said of Williams’ performance: ”Lou got hot at the right time for us.”

Andre Iguodala finished with 12 points for the 76ers, which now won two in a row. Forward Elton Brand missed his second straight game because of a sprained right thumb injury.

Bryant led the way for the Lakers with 28 points, six assists and five rebounds, while Andrew Bynum ended with 20 points and 20 boards.

“I think we’ll be alright. We’ve got to score. The defense is doing what it needs to do,” commented Bynum.

The game also saw Bryant surpassing his former Lakers teammate Shaquille O’Neal for fifth place on the NBA league’s all-time scoring list.

Pau Gasol scored 16 points and 11 rebounds for the Lakers, which led 50-46 at half-time, but only shot 8-for-24 in the fourth quarter.
