“I am excited to begin my season and I am looking forward to a good performance,” Bolt, who has a 400m personal best of 45.28, was quoted as saying by AFP.

“I aim to successfully defend my Olympic titles and this is just the beginning of competition.”

Blake, the world championships 100m champion from last year, will also open his season over the one-lap event, but organizers said the training partners will not go head-to-head in the same heat in the timed finals event.

Blake, after winning the 100m title in Daegu, South Korea – a race in which Bolt false-started – went on to run the second fastest time ever over 200m, at 19.26 seconds.

He did so in September at an IAAF Diamond League meet.

His time is only bettered by Bolt’s world record of 19.19, set at the world championships in Berlin, Germany in 2009.

Bolt is also the holder of the 100m world record at 9.58sec, achieved in Berlin as well.

Blake and Bolt are both coached by sprint guru Glen Mills at the Racers Track Club.

Also expected to take part at the meet are Commonwealth Games 400m bronze medallist Jermaine Gonzales of Jamaica and Antigua’s 100m record holder  Daniel Bailey.
