LONDON (Sporting Alert) — Arsenal will be without Yossi Benayoun (sickness), Abou Diaby (hamstring) and  Mikel Arteta (head), but striker Robin van Persie will start against AC Milan in their Champions League return leg.

Arsene Wenger was happy to see his team come away with a win at Liverpool at the weekend, but said his side paid the price.

“We have paid a big cost because we have lost Benayoun (sickness), Diaby (hamstring) and Arteta (head),” Wenger said on Arsenal.com.

“Arteta has no major problem but he has to rest for a week so he will be available against Newcastle but not Milan.”

Arsenal head into the second down 4-0 after losing in Milan, which leaves their chances of a comeback at the Emirates Stadium an almost impossible task.

The Gunners will also have a last minute look at several other players with knocks, but goalscoring hero Van Persie will start, Wenger confirmed.

He said: “We have a few other knocks like Kieran Gibbs (groin and calf) and Rosicky (groin) is doubtful for Tuesday too. We will see. We will put out the best possible team for us to qualify.”

Asked if his captain will start the Frenchman said: “Yes. I would not be very credible telling you we want to score five goals and then I leave Robin van Persie out!”

Robinho scored twice, while Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Kevin-Prince Boateng each scored a goal in the win for AC Milan at the San Siro.
