NEW ORLEANS (Sporting Alert) – Kentucky held its nerve down the stretch to hold off Kansas and win its eighth national basketball title, following a 67-59 victory at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, Monday night.

Doron Lamb led the way for the champions with 22 points, while Player of the Year Anthony Davis added 16 rebounds, five assists, six blocks and six points.

Marquis Teague struggled in the second half, but still ended with 14 points and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist ended with 11 points and six boards for the Kentucky Wildcats, which shot 41-percent from the field and 42 from three-point range.

Meanwhile, Tyshawn Taylor and Thomas Robinson kept Kansas fighting with productive efforts – but the Jayhawks fell short in the end.

Junior Robinson, who many are tipping to enter the NBA draft, finished the game with 18 points and 17 rebounds, while Taylor had 19 points in the win. Elijah Johnson added 13 points in the defeat.
