Di Matteo left Florent Malouda and Michael Essien out, while Fernando Torres and Daniel Sturridge are also on the bench.

Gary Cahill and David Luiz both start for Chelsea.

Bayern Munich are without Holger Badstuber, David Alaba and Luiz Gustavo.

Mario Gomez will again lead the attack for Bayern Munich, which start the competition as strong favourites to take the title and salvage some kind of pride for being dominated in the domestic campaign.
