The other goalscorer was Shinji Okazaki, who netted in the second half.
Kagawa opened the scoring with a fabulous strike in the 42nd minute of play when he picked up a through ball just outside the area and after cutting in to beat his marker – curled one into the far corner for the 1-0 scoreline.
“Everything fell into place for the goal,” Kagawa said. “We had a lot of chances and probably should have scored more.”
Kagawa has been the subject of the transfer market this summer with several reports linking him with a move to Manchester United.
The attacking midfielder was inspirational in helping Borussia Dortmund to its second straight Bundesliga title this season.
Okazaki made it 2-0 in the 59th minute of play after he touched home from close range from a Keisuke Honda high pass.
Japan were using the match as another warmup game in preparation for the upcoming three World Cup qualifiers in June.
