Tyson Gay v Justin Gatlin in Paris on July 6

PARIS (Sporting Alert) — Gay, the American record holder and Gatlin, the 2004 Olympic 100m champion are set to face-off later on this month at the U.S. trials and organisers are delighted to book them for a quick rematch at the Areva meet.

The event, however, will not have Olympic sprint double champion and world-record holder Usain Bolt, as meeting directors say the Jamaica will not be racing in Paris.

Gay, following a year on the side-lines after hip surgery, returned to action at the adidas Grand Prix in New York, last weekend and posted an impressive 10.00 seconds to win the “B” race of the men’s 100m, running into a slight headwind.

The determined sprinter, who trains at the same track as Gatlin, says he’s now confident of making the American Olympic team from the trials as he no longer feels any pain on his hip.

Gatlin is the reigning World Indoor 60m champion and he has looked very impressive so far this season – running a quick 9.87secs to beat Asafa Powell in Doha.

The race will also see French stars Christophe Lemaitre and Jimmy Vicaut, who both made the finals at the World Championships at the 2011 World Championships in Daegu, last year and they are targeting fast times on home soil.
