DURAN (Sporting Alert) — Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson selected a mixture of youth and experience in his squad which flew to South Africa for the start of DHL pre-season tour.
The 22-man squad left Manchester for Durban on Monday morning.
Amongst the experienced players on the tour were captain Rio Ferdinand, as well as midfielders Michael Carrick and Paul Scholes, new No. 7 Antonio Valencia and Javier Chicharito Hernandez.
Flopped Portuguese winger Bebe is also on the tour after he returned from his loan stint with Besiktas.
A number of youngsters, including Davide Petrucci, Jesse Lingard and Ryan Tunnicliffe are all included in the squad.
Manchester United will open their preseason against AmaZulu FC in Durban on Wednesday night, before playing Ajax Cape Town on Saturday.
The Barclays Premier League will also make visits to Norway, Sweden and Germany next month.
