Preseason Friendly Football Results – July 16

(Sporting Alert) — Demba Ba scored a first half header and Barclays Premier League side Newcastle United picked up a close 1-0 victory over Monaco in a preseason game on Monday night.

Ba, who has been linked with several moves away from the club, netted the lone goal for Newcastle in the 33rd minute – after Monaco defenders failed to take care of a cross played inside the area.

The Senegal forward was the club’s top scorer last season after he fired 16 goals in the back of the net.

Several Newcastle stars were involved in the game, including Jonas Gutierrez, Shola Ameobi, and Cheick Tiote.

Elsewhere on Monday in other preseason friendly results, Jose Velazquez scored for Panathinaikos in their 1-0 win over Al Jaish, Kilmarnock suffered a 4-1 defeat at the hands of Greenock Morton, while Benfica and Lille ended 0-0, so do did Shelbourne and Millwall.
