Spain defends Euro title with 4-0 win over Italy

KIEV, Ukraine (Sporting Alert) – Spain silenced the critics about being boring by registering the biggest win ever at European Championship after beating Italy 4-0 to retain the Euro trophy on Sunday.

Italy played the last 20 minutes with 10 players.

Goals from David Silva, a beauty by Jordi Alba and one each from substitutes Fernando Torres and Juan Mata sealed the victory for Spain, who became the first team to win three major crowns in a row.

Once again Vicente del Bosque decided to play with a recognized striker, but his tactic paid off.

Del Bosque also became the first coach to win World Cup, Champions League and European titles.

Torres, by playing fewer minutes, won the golden boot with three goals and one assist.
