LONDON (Sporting Alert) — Daniel Sturridge starts on the bench tonight as Great Britain seek a win against the United Arab Emirates in men’s Olympic Games Soccer action.
It is believed that the Chelsea forward is still recovering from meningitis, which has been preventing him from going all out.
Meanwhile, Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsey and West Ham United’s James Tomkins have been handed starting places, alongside Marvin Sordell.
Swansea City’s Joe Allen keeps his starting place and will link up with the likes of Ryan Giggs, Tom Cleverley, and Craig Bellamy.
Great Britain were held 1-1 by Senegal in their opening Group A match, with Bellamy getting on the scoresheet.
United Arab Emirates were beaten 2-1 in their opener by Uruguay and this was after taking a 23rd minute lead through Ismaeil Matar, who starts in the attack today again.
