LONDON (Sporting Alert) – Usain Bolt promised that he would do something special and he certainly did not disappoint after the world record holder blasted to another dominant performance to win the Olympic 100m gold medal on Sunday night.

The world record holder set a new Olympic record and the second fastest 100m time ever at 9.63 seconds to win the gold medal and defended his title from Beijing.

Bolt’s training partner and world champion Yohan Blake made it a gold and silver performance outing for Jamaica after the Jamaican champion equalled his personal best of 9.75 for second place.

Athens 2004 Olympic gold medallist Justin Gatlin was third and he ran a new personal best of 9.79 seconds for the bronze.

Tyson Gay missed out at winning a medal after running 9.80 for third, but he said he gave it his best shot.

“I have no excuses,” the American said. “I gave it my best. I wanted to do it for my family, but I came up short.”

It was another disappointing outing for Asafa Powell, who finished last.
