Asafa Powell of Jamaica in action

LONDON (Sporting Alert) — Jamaican athletes, and Asafa Powell, in particular, has been a massive target for drug tester inside the athletes Olympic Village, the sprinter’s agent Paul Doyle said.

Doyle claimed that of his 35 athletes participating at the Olympic Games in London, Powell has been tested the most times, revealing the former 100 metres world record holder has been visited some three times in five days already.

“I just think its terrible the way they are targeting the Jamaican athletes possibly and certainly Asafa Powell,” Doyle was quoted as saying.

Doyle also noted that Powell is growing increasingly frustrated by the ‘excessive drug testing’ inside the Olympic Village – revealing how the sprinter was upset at being woken-up from his sleep tonight by doping officials.

“We are all for doping control and for catching cheats, but we just wish that they were more sensitive to the athletes,” said Doyle.

“Its just frustrating, his body will of course regenerate the blood they took in a matter of hours, but it of course weighs in his mind.

“He felt the other day after giving blood that he was too weak to train, but he will be fine come the day of competition.”

Powell will line up in the opening rounds of the men’s 100 metres dash on Saturday and he’s one of the favourites to win a medal.

He is expected to face the likes of Usain Bolt, Yohan Blake, Tyson and Justin Gatlin in the deciding race.
