Medal Tally-Olympic Games medal table standing after Day Eight

LONDON (Sporting Alert) — The battle for the top spot on the London 2012 Olympic Games medal table standings remains very close between the United States and rival China.

After Day Eight of Games on Saturday, the United States, which bagged five gold, three silver and three bronze on Saturday’s eighth day of lead the standings with 54 overall medals.

China are sitting in second place on 53 overall medals, including 25 golds, and 16 silvers.

The top five nations are completed by Great Britain, which have 14 golds in its 29 medal tally, South Korea (17) with 9 golds and France, which have 8 in its 22 medal tally.

A total of 428 medals have been won so far at the Games, including 138 golds.
