BARCELONA (Sporting Alert) — Lionel Messi scored twice for Barcelona to beat Real Sociedad 5-1 in their opening Spanish La Liga game at Camp Nou on Sunday.

But it was Carles Puyol, who headed Barcelona into the lead in the third minute of play from a corner kick to send the home fans cheering.
The visitors got an equaliser though in the 9th minute from Gonzalo Castro, who blasted home a pass that split Barcelona’s defence.
Messi then quick got the first of his two goals a little over a minute later when he picked off a nice one-two pass before making rooms for himself and let one fly from about 14 yards.
His second came five-minutes later he made it 3-1 before Pedro added a fourth five minutes outside the half-time break.
Fit again striker David Villa scored to make it 5-1 in the 85th minute.
