Van Persie in Manchester United squad for Everton trip

MANCHESTER (Sporting Alert) — Robin van Persie was named in Manchester United squad for Monday night’s Barclays Premier League opener against Everton at Goodison Park.

The Holland forward who completed his move from Arsenal to Old Trafford on a four-year deal, is amongst six strikers named to squad by manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

Van Persie joins Wayne Rooney, Danny Welbeck, Javier Hernandez, Dimitar Berbatov and Federico “Kiko” Macheda as the options for the strikers slots.

Also in the squad for Manchester United are summer signing Shinji Kagawa, who is set make his debut in the Premier League, while another summer recruit Chris Powell was also named for the trip.

Manager Sir Alex Ferguson, however, face some defensive headaches with has problems in defence with Phil Jones (back), Chris Smalling and Jonny Evans (foot) are all ruled out of the game.

Meanwhile, Everton boss David Moyes is set to hand summer signing Steven Naismith his competitive debut after joining the club from Rangers in Scotland. Midfielder Steven Pienaar is also back after moving from Tottenham, the manager should also have Marouane Fellaini and former Manchester United player Darron Gibson for the game after the pair recovered from injuries.
