The Jamaican world record holder, who dazzled to 9.69 seconds in Beijing, China in 2008, saved his best for the majors once again and blasted to an Olympic record of 9.63 seconds to retains his crown.

The title winning time was the second fastest on the all-time list – behind his very own world record of 9.58 seconds set at the Berlin World Championships in 2009.

Bolt was beaten by Yohan Blake in both the 100m and 200m at the Jamaican Championships, but he said he was never worried about it.

Asked about the criticisms he took from people, Bolt said: “I’m not concerned. I’ve said it from the start, people can talk, all they can do is talk.

“I tell you people that when it comes to the championships it’s all about business to me and I brought it.”

Blake equalled his own personal best of 9.75 seconds for the silver, while American Justin Gatlin, returning from a four-year ban ran a personal best of 9.79 for the bronze.
