(Sporting Alert) — The bus carrying Argentina’s national team was heavily stoned on Monday on its arrival in Lima for Tuesday’s 2014 World Cup qualifier against Peru, reports claimed.
“They threw bricks at us,” the sports daily Ole quoted Argentine Football Association official Juan Carlos Crespi as saying.
The report revealed though that none of the Argentina players or members of the nation’s coaching staff suffered any injuries in the incident, which took place outside the Estadio Nacional.
Meanwhile, the Peruvian daily El Comercio is now reporting that Peru police are now on guard on security duties at the Argentine team’s hotel in Lima’s San Isidro district and are prepared for any further incident that may arrived.
It is also believed that Lionel Messi and his teammates will be heavily guarded on their arrival to stadium for the World Cup qualifier.
Argentina, which defeated Paraguay 3-1 in Cordoba on Friday are leaders of the CONMEBOL with 13 points, while Peru, which beat Venezuela 2-1 in their last contest are on six points and in seventh place in the nine country group.
