MANCHESTER (Sporting Alert) — Robin van Persie will return to the Manchester United starting line-up for their opening Group H Champions League clash against Galatasaray at Old Trafford on Wednesday.

Van Persie, who has hit four goals for his new side already this season, played a limited role off the bench in the Barclays Premier League victory over Wigan on Saturday, but manager Sir Alex Ferguson says the former Arsenal star will be back in the starting XI Wednesday night.

Also set to return to the starting team are Shinji Kagawa and Antonio Valencia, while left-back Patrice Evra, who missed the Wigan also, has recovered from a minor knock and could return.

Ferguson is also set to recall goalkeeper David De Gea after sitting him in the last two games.

The says he will play a strong team throughout the tournament, especially getting dumped before Christmas last year.

He said on www.manutd.com: “We’ve watched a lot of video analysis of them. I think there are several points about them… they have two players we know about in [former Arsenal midfielder] Emmanuel Eboue and [ex-Bolton striker] Johan Elmander who played in English football.

“They have two good central midfielders in Felipe Melo and Selcuk Inan and a centre-forward to look out for in Umut Bulut. [It's a bit like 'bullet' and] that’s a good name for a centre-forward!

“I know from experience it’s never easy against Turkish teams. It will be a very close game tomorrow.”

Manchester United (squad): Lindegaard, De Gea, Rafael, Ferdinand, Vidic, Keane, Evans, Evra, Buttner, Valencia, Anderson, Powell, Kagawa, Cleverley, Scholes, Fletcher, Carrick, Giggs, Nani, Van Persie, Welbeck, Hernandez.
