MADRID (Sporting Alert) — Radamel Falcao is the most targeted striker across Europe and the Atletico Madrid frontman showed why he is by netting another important goal for the Spanish side on Sunday.
Looking for a win to keep the pressure on La Liga leaders Barcelona, which picked up a victory on Saturday, Falcao fired home the winner for Atletico in the 90th minute of the game to seal all three points for the visitors at Anoeta.
The goal was Falcao’s nine of the season in the Primera Division, the same as Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo.
Falcao has been linked with a move away from Atletico with Barclays Premier League sides Chelsea and Manchester City leading the race.
Spanish champions Real Madrid have also been linked with the Columbian forward.
Atletico will certainly want to keep a hold of Falcao as his goal helped them to move to 22 points, the same as Barcelona, which carved out a thrilling 5-4 result over Deportivo La Coruña away from home and playing with 10-man on Saturday. Striker Lionel Messi leading from the front with a hat-trick.
On Saturday, Ronaldo and Gonzalo Higuain scored on the other side of 45-minutes for Real Madrid to beat Celta 2-0. Malaga edged 10-man Valladolid 2-1, while Spanish international Roberto Soldado scored from the penalty spot in Valencia’s 3-2 victory over 10-man Athletic.
