RESULT: Novak Djokovic vs David Ferrer, 6-0, 6-3

(Sporting Alert) Tennis World number one Novak Djokovic returned to action with a convincing 6-0 6-3 victory over David Ferrer to book his place in Saturday’s Mubadala World Tennis Championship final in Abu Dhabi.

Djokovic was making his first playing appearance since he won the ATP World Tour Finals last month and he was surprised, but delighted with his comeback performance.

“I love this court and the conditions here. I wish all the tournaments in the world were played here,” the Serbian told ESPN after his win.

“It’s definitely a great surface. It’s not too warm here, not too cold, it’s ideal to prepare on.

“I am surprised with my game considering it’s the first match of the official season. Hopefully I can play another good one tomorrow.”

Ferrer was disappointed with his performance in the defeat, but the world number five player admits Djokovic shows why he’s No. 1.

“He’s the best. I tried but I couldn’t do it. Next time I will try again,” Ferrer said.

“I won three games but to beat ‘Nole’ I need to play my best tennis and today wasn’t a good day.”

Djokovic won six titles this year, including a victory over rival Rafael Nadal at the Australian Open.

He also won the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals (Indoor/Hard) , ATP World Tour Masters 1000 Shanghai (Outdoor/Hard), and ATP World Tour Masters 1000 Miami (Outdoor/Hard).
