LONDON (Sporting Alert) — This is how the English Premier League standings will look heading into this week’s midweek fixtures.
Free scoring Manchester United continue to lead the table standings with 56 points, five more than arch rivals and defending champions Manchester City.
Robin van Persie, Wayne Rooney, Javier Hernandez and Danny Welbeck have scored 47 of Manchester United’s 57 Premier League goals this season, which is the most by any EPL club this campaign.
After 23 games, Chelsea are in third with 45pts, while Tottenham (41) and Everton (38) complete the top five.
Arsenal are in sixth place with 37pts and need to go on a consistent winning run to catch the leaders or run the risk of missing out at playing in the Champions League next season.
Rounding out the top ten teams in the standings are Liverpool (34), West Bromwich (34), Swansea City (33) and Stoke City (29).
At the other end of the EPL standings, the battling QPR are holding up the table with just 15 points, while Reading and Wigan (19) are also in the problem area.
Aston Villa have been very disappointing under the management of Paul Lambert this season and they are just one point out of the relegation zone on 20pts, with Newcastle very close with 21pts.
Expect to see some changes in the English Premier League standings after Tuesday night’s game, with Manchester City expected to beat QPR and cut Man United lead at the top to two points.
Swansea would replace Liverpool in seventh with a win over Sunderland, while Wigan would send Villa into the bottom three and go to 16th win a victory at Stoke City.
