MANCHESTER (Sporting Alert) — Manchester City beat Chelsea 2-0 to cut the gap between them and Manchester United in the English League table to 12 points. The follow are the EPL football results, scores from Sunday.
Yaya Toure scored the opening goal to give Manchester City a 1-0 lead in the 63rd minute before substitute Carlos Tevez smashes a shot past Petr Cech for his team’s second five minutes from time.
Chelsea could have taken the lead in the second half, but Frank Lampard saw his penalty saved by England’s No. 1 Joe Hart, who received mixed feelings from his manager.
“I think Joe is the best keeper in England and one of the best in Europe,” said Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini.
The manager than added: “But a goalkeeper like him can do better, with the long ball [which led to the penalty]. He could be perfect – it’s important to have concentration always.
“We can’t think that it’s finished with 11 games to go. It’s not my mentality or my players’ mentality and we need to play like today. Both goals were fantastic.”
The win saw Manchester City move to 56 points from 27 games in the English League table standings, while Chelsea fell seven points behind their opponents with the defeat.
In other EPL game on Sunday, Newcastle game from a goal down to beat Southampton 4-2.
