Burkina Faso came through a difficult group and then knocked off Togo in the quarter-finals to book its semi-final slot and Put is bracing for another challenging game against Ghana.

The team is targeting its first-ever African Nations Cup final.

Ghana is another challenge but we’re going to approach it in the same way as the other games,” he said.

“We will see which players are recovered from the previous matches because we played extra-time [against Togo].

“To be on the same level is not easy but we’ll try to get the most fit players on the pitch.

“We have the quality to compete with every team in this tournament. But we need focus and determination.”

Coach Put will check on Mohamed Koffi, who trained alone this week, before the game.

Ghana, in the meantime, ended the run of Cape Verde with a 2-0 win on Saturday, but coach Kewsi Appiah hopes his team can improve for the test against Burkina Faso.

“It’s a learning process and [the players] learned their mistakes [against Cape Verde in the quarter-finals].

“They have had four meetings before today [to discuss] how to cope with such situations. I believe in our next game we’ll develop from there.

“I think Burkina Faso’s midfield and defence are strong, considering they’ve only lost one goal and they’ve got some glimpses of good attacking.

“I believe a couple of the players that we’ve got means we can perform better than we have so far.”

Veteran striker Asamoah Gyan is backing the Black Stars to use their experience to get the better of their opponents.

“The first half was a bit frustrating,” Gyan told the Ghana Football Association’s website.

“We couldn’t go through their defence. But what made the difference in our victory was the penalty. When we scored, the game became opened.

“Although in the second half they dominated, we stood firm. We have experience and we kept our composure and in the late stages, we scored our second goal.

“In tournaments, it’s about you winning and qualifying to the next stage of the competition.”
