Miami (42-14) will enter the Eastern Conference showdown with the Knicks at Madison Square Garden on a 13 game winning streak and will look to beat their arch rivals for the first time in three meeting this season.
The Knicks took the first meeting 104-84 on Nov. 2 before taking a 112-92 decision on Dec. 6, despite James’ 31 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists performance.
On Friday the defending champions held off a strong challenge from Memphis to take a 98-91 victory, James shaking off his early struggles to make some big plays down the stretch, as his teammates also held their own during his struggles.
“When I don’t make shots, I know I can do other things to help our team win,” he said.
“It’s no surprise we’ve got guys stepping up.
“We’ve got guys who can do the small things, the big things and everything in between.”
The win on Friday saw the Heat pulling closer to the franchise’s longest winning streak, but James is only focusing on taking one game at a time.
“Just win the next one. That’s all it’s about,” the star forward said.
“We’ve got the next one in New York and then we’ll go on from there.”
The New York Knicks (35-20) are very good at home this season with a 21-8 record Carmelo Anthony, who scored 30pts and missed the second meeting this season with a finger injury says they will be ready for the travelers.
“We will be prepared for Miami,” Anthony, who has scored at least 30 points in three of his last four games said.
The Knicks are on a three game winning streak, but have dropped four of its last seven.
