(Sporting Alert) — The NCAA NIT Tournament continues on Monday night with three games.

With March Madness taking a break, following the first three rounds of the competition, the focus will now be on the NIT, with No. 8 Robert Morris, which dumped Kentucky, looking for another win at No. 4 Providence in the first game on the night at 7:00 PM ET.

The Colonials (24-10) edged NCAA defending national champions Wildcats, 59-57 in the first round game.

“It’s probably the greatest consolation prize you can possibly have,” Robert Morris coach Andy Toole said.

At the same time, Providence (18-14), which erased a seven-point second-half deficit to beat the Charlotte 49ers 75-66 last Wednesday night in their opening round, go into Monday night’s game looking to build on that win.

“This is a great moment for us — great moment as our team is building, our program is building,” a satisfied Friars coach Ed Cooley said after the game.

“We look forward to a great challenge, obviously our next opponent has played really well, beating a monster like Kentucky at home, but there’s nothing like playing in this beautiful state.

“Great things are going to happen here. It’s just a matter of time,” said Cooley, in his second year as the Providence coach.

Also in action on Monday are No. 1 seed Southern Miss (26-9), which take on the fifth-seed Louisiana Tech (27-6).

On Wednesday night the Golden Eagles picked up a 78-71 victory over Charleston Southern to book its place in this round, while Louisiana Tech beat the Florida State Seminoles 71-66.
