(Sporting Alert) — No. 1 seed Connecticut and No. 2 Tennessee are among the teams bowing into action in the opening round of the 2013 NCAA Women’s Basketball Championship on Saturday.

Connecticut (29-4), ranked third in the nation, after losing both the Big East regular-season and tournament crowns to Notre Dame, will take on No. 16 Idaho (17-15), as they seek to get their tournament run off to a positive start in the Bridgeport Regional.

The Huskies are used to being the favorites heading into the tournament, but head coach Geno Auriemma admits that things are different this time round.

“I think any time you’re not the number-one No. 1 seed, you’re an underdog, given the success that Notre Dame and Baylor have had,” he said.

Also on Saturday, the second-seeded Tennessee (24-7) take on No. 15 seed Oral Roberts (18-12) at home in the Oklahoma City Regional.

The Lady Vols are ranked 10th in the country and are expected to win on Saturday.

However, Holly Warlick’s team knows that a victory in the first round would only take them closer to taking on defending national champion and No. 1 overall seed Baylor.

Warlick admits that it would have been nice to be on the other side of the NCAA bracket.

“Of course, I don’t know of too many people who would say, ‘Gosh, I’d love to be in Baylor’s bracket,’” she said.

“I think everybody in Baylor’s bracket would want to be in the others, but it is what it is.”

In other NCAA Women’s Basketball Championship first round games on Saturday, No. 3 seed Texas A&M, the Southeastern Conference (SEC) tournament champions, will tackle No. 14 Wichita State, No. 2 California will face No. 15 Fresno State, No. 13 Montana will look for an upset over No. 4 Georgia, while No. 13 Quinnipiac seek the same result over No. 4 Maryland and No. 7 Syracuse against No. 10 Creighton.
