HOUSTON, TX (Sporting Alert) — Manchester United forward Javier Hernandez scored twice to help 10-man Mexico played to a 2-2 draw with Nigeria in an international friendly at Reliant Stadium here in Houston, Texas, Friday night.
After hitting the post in the 13th minute of play, “Chicharito” Hernandez found the net when he burst into the penalty box to slot home a cross from Pablo Barrera in the 21st minute.
However, Mexico were dented a massive blow when Barrera was shown a straight red card for handling the ball inside the penalty area and Nigeria were rewarded with a spot kick.
Ideye Brown stepped up and coolly left goalkeeper Jose de Jesus Corona stranded as he slotted nicely into the bottom left of the goal in the 29th minute.
Nigeria then took the lead in the 41st minute when John Ogu scored to give the African nation a 2-1 half-time lead.
After the break Mexico went in search of a goal and got rewarded, again through Hernandez, who cleverly guided home a cross from Carlos Salcido from close range in the 70th minute.
Nigeria had hit the post before Mexico equalized, while the CONCACAF wasted several first and second opportunities to score more than two goals.
