KINGSTON, Jamaica (Sporting Alert) — The Jamaica Football Federation says the nations new Reggae Boyz coach will be a German.

The news which was circulated in local media outlets, was confirmed by the Jamaica Football Federation president, Captain Horace Burrell on Wednesday.

Burrell said an energetic and exciting Winfried Schafer will replace former World Cup player Theodore ‘Tappa’ Whitmore as the new head coach and he will immediately take charge of the rest of the team’s World Cup campaign.

“I think he has a strategy laid out in his head,” Burrell said in the Jamaica-Gleaner.  “He says he intends to leave a legacy here,” Burrell added.

Following a dismal spell to start the final round of the CONCACAF qualifiers, Whitmore was relieved of his duties, following the team’s disappointing display in a 0-2 defeat to Honduras in June.

The Reggae Boyz had earlier lost back-to-back home fixtures against CONCACAF giants Mexico and the United States.
