NEW YORK (Sporting Alert) — As expected, Florida State on Sunday, moved up one slot to be the new No. 1 team in The Associated Press college football poll, following the defeat of the previous top-ranked Alabama on Saturday.

The Florida State Seminoles (12-0) received 58 of the 60 first-place votes from the media panel and 1498 points to jump one place to No. 1 for the first time since Oct. 1, 2000, after beating the Florida Gators 37-7 in their game on Saturday.

Auburn, who stunned the two-time defending national champions Alabama, got the other two first-place votes and 1,387 points, also went up a place to No. 3.

Ohio State is now No. 2 in the rankings, after tallying 1,418 points.

Alabama slipped to No. 4 in the AP poll, while No. 5 Missouri, who will take on Auburn for the Southeastern Conference title at Georgia Dome next weekend after beating the then-#21 Texas A&M 28-21, completed the top five.

Florida State and Ohio State are the only 12-0 teams remaining.
