SYDNEY (Sporting Alert) — Gary Ballance, Scott Borthwick and Boyd Rankin have all been handed debuts for England in the final Ashes Test match against Australia at Sydney Cricket Ground, while Joe Root was dropped.
Root, struggling with his form on tour, makes way for Ballance, with the coaching staff deciding to stick with Michael Carberry, giving the 33-year-old another chance at the top of the order.
Meanwhile, fast bowler Rankin makes his debut, with spinner Borthwick also playing as well.
Monty Panesar and Tim Bresnan join Root in the changes for England.
Australia are unchanged for the test match and captain Michael Clarke is delighted to keep the same core going as they seek a 5-0 whitewash.
England captain Alastair Cook won the toss and will field first.
