Syracuse beat Duke in their first ACC meeting

NEW YORK (Sporting Alert) — NCAA men’s basketball to top 25 scores, results, box scores and NCAAB standings from the games that took place on Saturday, Feb. 1.

The night saw No. 1 Arizona (21-1, 8-1 Pac-12) suffering their first defeat of the season, following a shocking 60-58 defeat to California (15-7, 6-3 Pac-12).

Justin Cobbs scored his team’s last 12 points, including the go ahead jumper with 0.9 seconds left, to finished with a team high 19 points in the win for California. Cobbs also ended with seven assists.

David Kravish had 14 points and 11 rebounds, Richard Solomon scored 12 points and Tyrone Wallace added 11 for the Bears.

“I think it’s just good for Cal, and I think it’s good for the university and the students to come out and have that kind of excitement,” Cal coach Mike Montgomery.

“I think one of the things you’re trying to generate is them enjoying the game, enjoying the experience, and I think there was some of that tonight.”

Kaleb Tarczewski led the Wildcats with 18 points and six rebounds and T.J. McConnell scored 13 points in the defeat. Aaron Gordon pulled down 13 rebounds and scored eight points for Arizona.

No. 2 Syracuse fender off a challenge from No. 17 Duke in an overtime 90-89 victory at Carrier Dome.

C.J. Fair top scored with 28 points and Jerami Grant finished with a career-high 24, including eight points in overtime, and 12 rebounds for the Orange (21-0, 8-0 ACC), who are expected to go No. 1 when the next Associated Press (AP) rankings come out Sunday.

Rasheed Sulaimon scored 16 points, Jabari Parker added 15 points and nine boards, while Amile Jefferson, Rodney Hood and Andre Dawkins all had 14 points for the Duke Blue Devils (17-5, 6-3).

Elsewhere, No. 6 Kansas suffered an 81-69 defeat to No. 25 Texas, while No. 7 Michigan State were handed a 64-60 defeat by Georgetown.
