SPORTING ALERT – After coming off the bench and scored against Liverpool, Anthony Martial gets the start up front for Manchester United in tonight’s Champions League Group B opener against PSV Eindhoven.
Martial joined Manchester United on the last day of the summer transfer window and made his debut in the 3-1 victory over arch rivals Liverpool in the Premier League on Saturday.
Following his wonder goal, Man United manager Louis van Gaal has decided to hand the French teenager his full debut after signing from Monaco on a £36m fee.
The 19-year-old replaces Marouane Fellaini in leading the attack.
According Van Gaal, Fellaini would have started again, but was listed on the bench to start this game because the Belgium midfielder felt ill prior to the start.
Manchester United are without leading striker and captain Wayne Rooney, who is out with a hamstring injury.
Starting as well is Ashley Young, with Michael Carrick making way for the winger, which will see Ander Herrera moving back to partner Bastian Schweinsteiger in the central midfield and Juan Mata sliding over from the right to sit behind Martial.
Young will operate on the right-hand side and could interchange with Mata in supporting Martial.
As expected, David de Gea starts again in goal, while Memphis Depay will come up against his former club after leaving PSV for Manchester United in the summer.
Meanwhile, home side PSV are unchanged from the side that played in the 6-0 win over Cambuur last weekend.
This means former Chelsea defender Jeffrey Bruma, as well as striker Luuk De Jong, who netted a hat-trick at the weekend start.
Mexico’s Andres Guardado, Joshua Brenet and Luciano Narsingh also start as well.
Manchester United XI: De Gea, Darmian, Smalling, Blind, Shaw, Sch’steiger, Herrera, Mata, Memphis, Young, Martial. Subs: Romero, McNair, Rojo, Carrick, Schneiderlin, Valencia, Fellaini.
PSV Eindhoven XI: Zoet, Arias, Bruma, Moreno, Brenet, Hendrix, Propper, Guardado, Narsingh, De Jong, Lestienne. Subs: Pasveer, Pereiro, Schaars, Poulsen, Locadia, Vloet, De Wijs.
