DORTMUND (Sporting Alert) — Arsenal and Liverpool target Mario Gotze scored a hattrick on Wednesday as Borussia Dortmund hammered Hannover 5-1 in the German DFB Cup last-16 tie at the Signal Iduna Park.
He scored in the opening five minutes of play and then added two more just before the end of the first half and before the conclusion of the game.
Borussia Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp promised to play a very strong team and that the boss did with the likes of Gotze, Robert Lewandowski, Mats Hummels and Marco Reus all included in his team.
And it was Gotze, who got Dortmund’s opener with just three minutes on the clock when the German wonder-kid arrived late inside the penalty box to tap home a cross.
Jakub Blaszczykowski double the host lead in the 18th minute when he scored off his own rebound shot before Gotze struck once again – five minutes before the half-time break for the comfortable 3-0 lead.
Forward Mame Biram Diouf pulled the score to 3-1 when he netted for Hannover – heading home past goalkeeper Roman Weidenfeller in the 79th.
But Borussia Dortmund gained its three goal cushion through Gotze, who completed his hattrick with a brilliant strike, following some trickery from Lewandowski inside the box.
Lewandowski finished off his night with his team’s fifth in the closing minutes to end a very disappointing night for the travelling Hannover fans.
Gotze is on the hot list of both Arsenal and Liverpool, the club has told the two Barclays Premier League teams that they are not good enough to land their star midfielder.
