Australian Open Women’s Singles Semifinals: Sharapova, Li, Azarenka, Stephens

MELBOURNE (Sporting Alert) — Maria Sharapova and Na Li will take on each other as they aim to book her place in the 2013 Australian Open final.

Th match is the first of the two semis-final in the Australian Open, with Victoria Azarenka Sloane Stephens, who stunned American Serena Williams in the quarterfinals, playing the second game.

The Maria Sharapova vs Na Li clash is scheduled to start at 9:30 p.m. ET and will be televised on ESPN2.

No. 2 Sharapova has not dropped a set coming into the game, and the Russian will start favorite to move on the championship match.

At the same time, Li, who is ranked No. 6, is also full of confidence, as she too enters the game not dropping a set in the tournament.

The Chinese sensation has also defeated three seeded players on her way to reaching her third Australian Open semifinal.


Sharapova leads the head-to-head clash between the two 8-4, but Li is the form player in the series, winning the last four clashes.

Also playing on the semis is No. 1 Victoria Azarenka, who will take on the surprised package, in Sloane Stephens, the American No. 29.

On the men’s side, No. 1 and defending champion Novak Djokovic face No. 4 David Ferrer of Spain in one semi-finals.
