BARCELONA (Sporting Alert) — Robin van Persie is being rumoured to wanting a transfer away from Manchester United and it is believed Barcelona are monitoring his every move.
Mark Lawrenson, a pundit with BBC Sports Match of the Day, claimed that the Netherlands striker “asked for a transfer” from Manu, after failing to get along with new manager David Moyes.
Moyes has quickly branded the report as “absolute nonsense.”
“You can ask about that (the transfer report), no problem, and I would say that it is absolute nonsense,” Moyes said on Manu official website www.manutd.com.
“I don’t know what other harder or tougher word I have got for it than that. That is as good as I have got.”
Moyes’ response, however, hasn’t stopped clubs from wanting Van Persie, as it is now understood that Spanish La Liga leaders Barcelona have shown interest in signing the forward.
According to Sport, Barcelona are looking to add a center forward to their squad and are willing to offer €45m for the Dutchman to link back up with his former Arsenal teammates Cesc Fabregas and Alex Song at the Nou Camp.
There have been uncertainty over Moyes’ ability to lead a big club such as Manchester United, with even senior player and experienced center-back Rio Ferdinand coming out to criticize his manager’s methods.
Manu, in the meantime, are not prepared to let Van Persie leave, as they see him as a vital member of the team in their push for a top four finish.
